Early Identification of Autism
NJ EPIC: Early Identification & Referral of Children with Autism (EPIC Autism)

EPIC, Educating Physicians in Their Communities, is a model designed to educate primary care physicians and their entire office personnel to improve practice performance by providing office-based clinical instruction, practical office tools, and information to help practices develop new policies and procedures that sustain health care improvements. Under the leadership of Steven Kairys, MD, FAAP, Medical Director, PCORE EPIC programs are taught within the context of a Medical Home. EPIC Autism will focus on the early identification and referral of children with autism, and helping community primary care providers to connect families with appropriate community resources and supports. The trainings will focus on identifying young children 18 months – 5 years with signs and symptoms suggestive of ASD. Early identification will lead to early and appropriate referrals for children in need of further evaluation and/or other community resources such as early intervention.
