From the CDC: Tooth decay (dental caries) affects children in the United States more than any other chronic infectious disease. Untreated tooth decay causes pain and infections that may lead to problems; such as eating, speaking, playing, and learning. The good news is that tooth decay and other oral diseases that can affect children are preventable. National AAP Resources on Oral Health
Oral Health Risk Assessment Preceptorship Program- Apply by April 7, 2010
The American Academy of Pediatrics' (AAP) is pleased to once again offer the opportunity to apply for the Oral Health Risk Assessment Preceptorship Program. Below please find the Request for Proposals as well as the Application for this program. Applications are due April 9, 2010 to lbarone@aap.org.
This program aims to provide pediatricians interested in implementing oral health assessments and varnish application in their practice with mentorship support. Each site awarded will be provided with individualized one-on-one training in performing oral health risk assessments, maternal/caretaker oral assessment interviews, and the application of fluoride varnishes by a pediatric dentist or pediatrician with oral health training. Please feel free to disseminate this information to your Chapter membership. The number of awards made varies and will be decided by the selection committee following the submission of applications. Over the past five years, 5 - 15 preceptorships have been awarded per year.
