Who can become members of the New Jersey Chapter?
On Wednesday, May 11, the Executive Council approved a Resolution to amend the Bylaws of the New Jersey Chapter American Academy of Pediatrics. In support of increasing our efforts to attain optimal health, safety and well-being of all New Jersey’s children, we are pleased to announce that in addition to Fellows and Specialty Fellows, Resident, Post-resident and Candidate Fellows, Affiliate Membership may be granted to physicians, dentists, advanced nurse practitioners, physician assistants, family practitioners, child and adolescent psychiatrists, child and adolescent psychologists and other allied health professionals (e.g. physical, occupational, speech therapists) practicing and/or residing in the State of New Jersey who are primarily interested in the care and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults.*

AAP/NJ Call for Nominations
AAP/NJ is soliciting nominations to fill 13 Executive Council member vacancies for terms beginning July 1, 2012. Detailed information regarding this call for nominations is outlined below. Note the following election term regulations:
- District Councilor - appointed and reappointed biennially for a maximum of two 2-year terms. Must live or work in the district.
- Nominating Committee - serve staggered terms of three (3) years and may not be re-elected nor concurrently serve in any other Chapter capacity.
- AAP/NJ Officers -
- Vice-President Elect - appointed for a 2-year term and automatically succeed to the Vice Presidency two (2) years after his/her election
- Treasurer - elected for a two (2) year term and may be re-elected for one additional two (2) year term
- Secretary/Editor - elected for a two (2) year term and may be re-elected for one-additional two (2) year term
The following AAP/NJ councilor positions are up for election:
- District 1 Bergen and Passaic County (current councilor - Alex Hyatt, MD, FAAP - re-electable)
- District 2 Essex unions and Hudson counties (current councilors - Monica Arnold, MD, FAAP - re-electable & Daniel Hermann, MD, FAAP - non-re-electable)
- District 3 Hunterdon Morris Somerset Sussex and Warren Counties (current councilor - Kristen Walsh, MD, FAAP - non-re-electable)
- District 4 Middlesex Mercer Monmouth and Ocean Counties (current councilor - Indira Amato, MD, FAAP - re-electable)
- District 5 Atlantic Camden Cape May Cumberland Gloucester and Salem (current councilor - Michael Goodman, MD, FAAP - re-electable)
- Two At Large Councilors (current councilors - Aimee LaRiviere - re-electable & Michel Tuck, MD, FAAP - non-re-electable
The following Nominating Committee Positions for election:

Committee member appointments are made on the basis of knowledge and expertise. Within this context, Academy membership demographics such as professional activity, gender, ethnicity, and geographical distribution will be considered, as will chapter activity.
The nominating committee will review any members who wish to be nominated for a position. Nominations are made on the basis of knowledge and expertise. Candidates may also be nominated by Petition, received In the Executive Offices by March 21. For District Councilors, the petition must be signed by at least five percent (5%) of vote eligible Fellows and/or Specialty Fellows in the respective Districts. For the Officers and Councilors-at-Large the petition must be signed by five percent (5%) of the Fellows and/or Specialty Fellows representing at least two (2) Districts. Petitions must be certified by the Nominating Committee and the results transmitted to the Academy Executive Director and District III Chair.

What is NJ Parent Link? NJ Parent Link is a broad based public/private initiative (10 state departments and 14 community/professional partners) supported by the federal Health Resources & Services Administration’s, State Early Childhood Comprehensive System (ECCS) Program Grant (2009-2012).
New Jersey Health and Senior Services is the lead agency for this project, coordinating over 30 government service units participating on the website development team.
The American Academy of Pediatrics, New Jersey Chapter is a participating agency on the NJ Parent Link Team.
Highlighting state services and resources, the goal of NJ Parent Link is to improve the accessibility, coordination and delivery of information and services to parents of young children, to improve the communication capabilities between the public and private sectors, and provide the IT foundation for inter/intra agency service collaborations and policy development.
Innovative website features include: interactive consumer content sections; tailored subscription services, a community calendar of events; continuing education/leadership postings; a children’s art gallery and streaming video for public service announcements.
